Obituary of Patricia E. McGuigan

Patricia McGuigan went home to the Lord on Sunday, March 11th, at St. Luke’s hospital after a long and full life of 83 years. Patricia was born in Utica, NY, on the 14th of June in 1934. She graduated from Utica Catholic Academy in 1951. Pursuing her dream of serving others and the lord she attended St. Luke's Memorial School of Nursing, graduating in 1954. In 1956, Patricia married the love her life, Donald J McGuigan Jr. and spent fifty bountiful years together. Donald's career opportunities brought them to travel around the northeast. In 1976, after years of being away, they were finally able to fulfill their lifelong dream and return to their hometown in Utica, NY. Here, she was able to spend her life dedicated to her family, Catholic faith, and career. Her retirement brought her to Schuyler Commons in North Utica where she developed many wonderful friendships. She looked forward to weekly happy hours and lunch bunch outings, and became the Queen of the Clubhouse. The last several months of her life were in the loving hands of the Masonic Care Center, she continuously praised the staff that cared for her. Service and kindness to others are the pillars she passed on to all the lives she embraced. Patricia is survived by her children Maura Pavlot; Patrick McGuigan and wife, Brenda Ducey; Sean McGuigan and wife, Kristine. Her grandchildren, Becky Buff and husband, Steve; Andy McGuigan; Jimmy Pennise and wife, Chloe Demirci; Ryan Pavlot and wife, Tina; Patricia McGuigan and husband, Dax Hewlett; Andrea Hanson and husband, Keith; Shannon Reeves and husband, Andy; Donald McGuigan III and fiance, Audry Lee; Kathleen McGuigan, Sean McGuigan. Her great grandchildren are as follows, Kevin, Adam, and Ryan Buff; Dylan, Ashlyn, Brooklyn, and Cailyn McGuigan; along with many wonderful friends and extended family members. She is predeceased by her husband, Donald J. McGuigan, her parents John and Irene Joyce, her brother Herbert Joyce, sister Joan Belavitch, son in law Frank Pavlot, and grandson Cory Pavlot. The family wished to send a heartfelt thank you, to the staff at St. Luke's Hospital for their care of Patricia in her last hours. In lieu of flowers the family would like to gather donations for a scholarship fund to Saint Elizabeth College of Nursing. Mrs. McGuigan's funeral will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and at 10:00 from St. Mark's Church, N. Utica. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 4-7.
