Obituary of Fred B. Dwyer

On Sunday, August 24, Fred passed away peacefully at home after a short illness. Fred was born on November 13, 1928 in Whitesboro, NY the son of Fred B. and Thelma (Morse) Dwyer, Sr., and attended Whitesboro Schools. He honorably served in the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. On May 10, 1958, Fred married Helen Pobieglo in St. Mary's Church in NY Mills. For many years, he was employed with General Electric Company until his retirement. He was a life member of Knights of Columbus Utica Council 189 and was actively involved as a volunteer for many organizations, including; St. John's Home, Knights of Columbus, Compeer, and the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, along with several others. Fred is survived by his wife Helen of 50 years; his children, David and Julie Dwyer of NY Mills, Daniel and Robin Dwyer of Fort Meyers, FL, Paul Dwyer of Poughkeepsie, Kathleen Robinson of Utica, and Tom and Karen Dwyer of North Colonie, NY; 10 grandchildren, Daniel, Noel, Kevin, Jennifer, Krystal, Matt, Alan, Shaun and Rachel Dwyer and Ryan Robinson; 1 great grandchild, MacKenzie Dwyer; a special nephew, Steven Fortnam and his family of Westmoreland and his niece, Marianne Wells and her family; a special friend, Richard Hardy of Utica and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Marna Fortnam. In keeping with Fred's wishes there will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday August 26, 2008 at 12:00 noon at St. Peter's Church, N. Utica. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to St. Jude's Children Hospital, PO Box 50 Memphis, TN 38101 in Fred's memory. The family would like to especially thank the many relatives, friends and neighbors who gave their love and support during Fred's Illness. Special thanks to Hospice Care, especially, Brian Palmer, Navaz, Irene and Yvette, the Staff from Caregivers, Amanda and Sue and the members of the Utica Fire Department for all your care and compassion.
