William Carl Wood, 83, of Utica, passed away on June 6, 2008, with his family by his side at home. William ( Bill) was born on December 7, 1924, in Utica, NY, the son of Roy and Eva Wadsworth Wood. He graduated from Utica Free Academy in June 1942. Bill joined the United States Marine Corps in March 1943 and he saw service in the Asia Pacific Area. After the war, Bill returned to Utica where he completed an apprenticeship as a Plumber & Steamfitter Journeyman. Bill was a member of the Plumbers and Fitters Local 79/112 for over 50 years. Bill retired in 1984. Bill played on the Heiders softball team when they won the City Championship in 1947. Bill also loved to play golf and watch all sports. In 1951, Bill married Patricia Hayes of Utica, NY. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1376, New Hartford. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife Patricia; his sons, William H. Wood and his wife, Cynthia, of Sun City, FL, Richard (Yogi) Wood and Thomas Wood of Utica; his daughter Eileen Turner and her husband David and his grandchildren Daniel and Lindsay, of Carlsbad, CA. He also leaves sisters-in-law Sister Marilyn Hayes of Little Falls, and Mrs. Maxine Wood of Manlius and a cousin Mrs. Dorothy Doran of Whitesboro. He was predeceased by his brother, Dr. John Wood. Bill also leaves many relatives and good friends who will miss his daily phone calls. Calling hours will be Monday, June 9, 2008 from 4 ? 7 pm at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, North Utica. A mass to celebrate Bill's life will take place on Tuesday, June 10, 2008at 9:15 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. Mark's Church in Utica. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro.
