Obituary of Thomas Hunzinger

Thomas M. Hunzinger, 53, of Utica passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday October 25, 2007. Thom was born in Utica on December 7, 1953 a son of the late Erwin W. and Frances X. (Clark) Hunzinger. Tom received his education at Blessed Sacrament Grade School, Notre Dame High School Class of 1971 and MVCC. At Holy Trinity Church, Utica on January 10, 1976 Thom married Cynthia A. Swiderski. For the past 14 years Tom owned and operated Shamy's Shoes in the New Hartford Shopping Center. Prior to this he was a Division Manager with Sears for 20 years. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart and St. Mary's Church, New York Mills, a former trustee and parish council member of Sacred Heart Church, and was on the unification committee for Sacred Heart Church and St. Mary's Church. Thom was also a former member of the Utica Catholic School Board and Yorkville Little League Coach and an avid Yankee's and SU Fan. Thom loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them more than anything. Recent special times include; planning a sweet 16 party for Laura in January, a surprise 50th birthday party for Cindy in August, attending Dan and Regina's wedding last week, and every minute with his grandchildren. He had countless friends and loved visiting with everyone at the New Hartford Shopping Center. Thom is survived by his wife, Cindy, his daughter; Laura Frances at home, his two sons and daughters-in-law; Michael Thomas and Ann Marie of Rome and Daniel Paul and Regina Katherine of East Greenbush, NY, 3 beloved grandchildren; Tristan Michael, Aidan Anthony and Jace Virginia, his three sisters and a brother-in-law; Anne Havel of Utica, Carol and John Simpson, of NY Mills and Janice Hunzinger of Utica, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Jacob and Felicia Swiderski of Utica ,in-laws; Brian and Marybeth Swiderski of Whitesboro and nieces and nephews; Bill Simpson, Nicole LaPaglia, Joseph LaPaglia and David Swiderski. Thom was predeceased by his youngest sister; Mary Christine LaPaglia and brother-in-law; Charles Havel. Mr. Hunzinger's funeral will be held Tuesday October 30, 2007 at 10:00 am from Sacred Heart and St. Mary's Church, New York Mills. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 4-8 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd. North Utica. Those so wishing may make donations to a scholarship fund that is being set up for Thom's daughter, Laura.
