Utica - Syracuse Joseph M. Sangregoria, 92, of Hope St., Utica, passed away May 3, 2007 at the Veterans Hospital, Syracuse, where he has been a resident for the last two years. Joe was born in Utica, NY, February 16, 1915, the son of Joseph and Mary Fiore Sangregoria. He was raised and educated in Utica. Following school, he joined the United States Army. At the end of his tour with the Army, he joined the United States Navy, serving from 1942 to 1945. A lifetime resident of Utica, Joe was known locally in his early years for his painting business. He later became employed with the West End Brewery Company, where he served until his retirement. Joe was a member of St. Joseph's-St. Patrick's Church, Utica. He was also a member of the D.A.V., Stars and Stripes #82. Joseph is survived by his nieces and nephews, James and Marilyn (Timmany) Sprague of Syracuse, Richard and Delores (Sangregoria) Mundschenk of Utica, and Arlene Slade of Utica. He also leaves many great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces. Joe is also survived by his lifelong friend, Joseph Kostera of Utica. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by five sisters and two brothers, Rose Sangregoria, Marie Wood, Josephine O'Hanlon, Julia Roberts, Margaret Gale, and Anthony and Michael Sangregoria. Mr. Sangregoria's funeral will be held Monday, May 7, 2007, at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, and at 10:00 at St. Joseph's-St. Patrick's Church, Utica, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. His burial with Military Honors will be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Whitestown, NY. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Sunday, May 6, from 3:00 until 6:00. Joe's family would like to make a special thank you to his loving doctors, nurses and staff at the Veterans Hospital for all their loving care and kindness throughout Joe's stay. Donations, in lieu of flowers, would be appreciated to the Veterans Hospital-TCU in Joe's memory.
