Philomena Rose Cerro, 78, a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, formerly of Utica, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2008, on her birthday, at the nursing home. Philomena was born April 23, 1930 in Utica, the daughter of Nicholas and Rose (Viggiano) Cerro. Most of her elementary and high school years, she was home schooled. In 1958, she attended Utica School of Commerce. She served for many years as a monitor at Roosevelt and Martin Luther King schools, from which she retired. Philomena loved to take pictures, especially documenting family functions and gatherings. Her happiest times were those spent with her family and friends. Philomena was a member of Historic Old St. John's Church. Philomena is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Carmelita and William McCabe, Largo, FL; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Vincent and Agnes Cerro, Whitesboro, Felix and Virginia Cerro, Clinton, Nicholas and Janet Cerro, New Hartford. Also surviving are two nephews and their wives and five nieces and their husbands, including two special nieces, Karen McCabe LoRusso and Diane Cerro Wiggins. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Philomena's Mass of Resurrection on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 10:00 am at Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Utica, will take place at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are entrusted to the Heintz Funeral Home, Utica. The family would like to thank Patricia Seelman, her friend and travel companion, for the years of compassion and attention shown to Philomena. Also a special thanks to Tom Lorenz, the chaplain at the Presbyterian Home for CNY, for the many acts of kindness extended to Philomena and her family during her stay. Finally, thank you to the nurses and staff of the Maple Wing of the Presbyterian Home for CNY for the care and compassion given to Philomena.
