Obituary of Patricia A. Simpkins Dunn

Patricia A. Dunn, 70, of Mohawk St., Sauquoit, formerly of Dawes Ct. E., passed away Sunday, February 10, 2008 at the Sitrin Healthcare Center. Patricia was born in Utica on July 8, 1937, the daughter of William and Marguerite (Sinclair) Gerstner. She was raised and educated in Utica. On October 3, 1959, Patricia married James Simpkins at St. Francis de Sales Church, Utica. Mr. Simpkins passed away in 1997. On July 8, 2000, Patricia married Donald C. Dunn, at St. Mark's Church, North Utica. She had worked for General Electric Company for 37 years until her retirement in 1993. With her husband Donald, Patricia was a strong supporter of Hospice & Palliative Care, including being active in their events, such as the Journey Together Walking Groups three days a week, Light up a Life, the monthly dinner dances, and bowling with Hospice, as well as in a Pin-a-Rama league. She is also a former Cub Scout "Den Mother". Patricia enjoyed vacationing and travelling the US and abroad. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Chadwicks. Patricia is survived by her husband, Donald, Sauquoit; one son, Daniel Simpkins and his companion, Lee Duffy, Rome; one stepson and his wife, Patrick and Shelli Dunn; three stepdaughters and their husbands, Donna and Steven Gossin, Marcy, Dawn and James Chapman, New Hartford, Debra and Adam Hearty, Marcy; a granddaughter, Samantha, as well as seven step grandchildren; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Marge Frederick, New Hartford, Joan and Bernard McLoughlin, MD, Suzzanne Faubert, North Utica, a brother, Robert Gerstner, Liverpool, NY, a sister-in-law and her husband, Marie and Les Carrall, Sauquoit. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and good friends. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by three brothers, John, James, and Richard. Mrs. Dunn's funeral will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 9:15 am from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, North Utica and 10:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Chadwicks where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Whitestown. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 ? 4 and 7 ? 9 pm. Those wishing may donate to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., in Patricia's memory. The family extends their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the nurses at the Sitrin Healthcare Center for the care and kindness shown to Patricia and her family during her stay.
