Mr. John (Jack) Hamblin, 80 of NY Mills passed away on Tuesday December 11, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. John was born in Lowell, MA on May 2, 1927 the son of William and Clara (Swanton) Hamblin and received his education in Lowell. As a US Navy veteran of WW II, Jack served on the SS Liddle in the South Pacific. On September 29, 1956, Jack married Shirley J. Rahauiser in Pelhem, New Hampshire a loving union of 46 years until Shirley's death in 2002. For many years, he was employed with the CNY Psychiatric Center retiring in 1989. Jack was a member of American Legion Post 1376, New Hartford and VFW Malson Jones Post 7393, NY Mills. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing tennis, oil painting, playing the guitar and most importantly attending his grandchildren's many sporting events. Jack was well read and could debate most subjects with anyone. His great sense of humor brightened up the life's of those around him. Mr. Hamblin will be sadly missed by his son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Debbie Hamblin, NY Mills; four cherished grandchildren who were the light of his life, Justin, Kayla, Jenna and Sara Hamblin, all of NY Mills; his beloved cousin and special friend, Joan Dziekan, NY Mills; sister-in-law, Betty Brykala and her husband, Robert, NY Mills and several Nieces, nephews and his buddy, Cooper. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Hamblin Clark and Peg Hamblin Walsh and a brother, William Hamblin. Mr. Hamblin's funeral will be held on Friday December 14, 2007 at 12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. A spring interment will be held in Glenside Cemetery, NY Mills. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday morning 10:00-12:00 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. or the Klippel Trenaunay Syndrome in honor of Jack's granddaughter Sara. Mr. Hamblin's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and aides on the 3rd floor at St. Elizabeth medical center for the loving care you provided. A special thank you to Steve Sickler, Dr. John Sperling and Missy for the compassionate care you provided to John. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.
