Jean Leach Utica-Oriskany Mrs. John F. Leach (Jean) 85 a resident the Eastern Star Home, Oriskany, formerly of South Utica passed away on Friday February 22, 2008 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford. Jean was born in Canada in 1922 the daughter of Peter and Catherine (Brisbois) Gillissie. She moved to Boston in 1925 and was a graduate of East Providence Rhode Island high school class of 1940. On August 10, 1945 Jean married John (Jack) Leach in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. For 31 years, Jean was employed as a typist with Utica Mutual Insurance Company retiring in 1984. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. Mrs. Leach is survived by her three children and their spouses; John Jr. and Kathy (Bender) Leach, Utica, Jean and James Donahue, Whitesboro and Linda and Gene Avella, Oriskany; six grandchildren, Michele Leddick, Utica, Shawna Moynihan, Utica, Steve Donahue, Iraq, Ryan Donahue, Whitesboro, Andrew Avella and his wife Tara, New Hartford and Aubrey Avella, NY City; five great grandchildren, Jolene Leddick, Robert Moynihan, Thomas Moynihan, Kayleen Leddick, and Abby Leddick; a dear sister-in-law, Anna Leach, Marcy and several loving nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Jack, two sons, Robert in infancy and James, two brothers, Peter Harold Gillissie and Cecil Gillissie and four sisters, Mrs. Florence Martin, Mrs. Blanche Cabral, Mrs. Winifred Donnelly and Mrs. Dorothy Kilgore. Mrs. Leach's funeral service will be held on Sunday February 24, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours for family and friends are Sunday 3:00-6:00 p.m. prior to the service. Those so wishing may consider a contribution to St. Jude Shrine, 512 W. Saratoga St. Baltimore, MD 21201 in Jean's memory. Mrs. Leach's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the eastern Star Home for the kindness and compassion given to Jean. A special thank you to Jean's Special room mate, Ruby and her friend Christine for all the love you showed our mother. "Mom, we love you and we'll miss you."
