Jean Fitzsimmons Cooper Utica Mrs. Jean Fitzsimmons Cooper, 74, a resident of St. Joseph Nursing Home, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2007. Jean was born on May 19, 1933, in Oneida, NY, the daughter of Russell J. and Margaret (Stanton) Smith and received her education in Utica schools. On July 4, 1952 Jean married Eugene Fitzsimmons in Utica, a union of 18 years until Eugene's death in 1970. Jean was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who tirelessly and single handedly cared for and raised her three children after the untimely death of her husband. Her strong religious faith helped sustain her through the most difficult times and her sense of pride in her Irish heritage was evident to all who knew her. She was a devoted member of the former St. Francis de Sales Church in Utica. Mrs. Cooper is survived by her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Rene' and Paul Fish, Utica, Colleen and James Carlo, Utica and Beth Johnston, Yorkville; four cherished grandchildren, Erin Fish, Matthew Carlo, Kelsey Rose Carlo and Brandon Johnston; a special niece, Margaret and two special nephews, William and Russell all of Watervliet, NY; and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her only sibling, Dorothy McAffrey Maikranz. Mrs. Cooper's funeral will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Calling hours for family and friends are Sunday, 3:00-5:00 prior to the service. Mrs. Cooper's family extends their sincere gratitude to the sister's and staff of St. Joseph Nursing home for the love and care they gave to our mom. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
