Mrs. Lila B. Norbin, 91, of N. Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 5, 2018 at her Home. Lila was born in Scranton, PA on January 19, 1927, the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Hillson) Sherlock. She was raised locally, was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and earned her RN degree from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. On September 10, 1950, Lila was united in marriage to Donald F. Norbin at St. Peter’s Church in N. Utica, a devoted union of 65 years until Donald,s death in 2015. At one time, Lila was employed as a RN with St. Elizabeth Hospital in Utica, later with Utica State Hospital and Faxton Hospital in Utica and until her retirement with Broadacres Skilled Nursing Facility in Deerfield. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth Guild, was a devoted volunteer with St. Elizabeth Medical Center and a parishioner of St. Peter’s Church in N. Utica. Lila also loved doing crossword puzzles and reading. Mrs. Norbin is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barb Norbin and Jim Edmund of Deerfield; son and daughter-in-law, Donald J. and Jane Norbin of Minnesota; three cherished grandchildren, Carrie Killoran and her husband Grant of Wisconsin, Abby McKenzie and her husband Ryan of Arizona and Andrew Norbin and his wife Michelle of Minnesota; three adored great grandchildren, Maggie Killoran, Owen Killoran and Molly McKenzie; one sister, Jean Blim of NY City as well as several nieces and nephews and her grand dog, Harrison whom she affectionately call “Her Cooch”. Mrs. Norbin’s funeral will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Her Rite of Committal and burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in the spring. Calling hours for family and friends are Saturday from 10:00-11:00 at the funeral home, prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Stevens-Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St., Utica, NY 13502 in Lila’s memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
