Francis "Dick" Moore Obituary

Francis "Dick" Moore, 82, of Utica passed away Wednesday May 9, 2007 with his family by his side. Dick was born in Whitesboro, NY on July 31, 1924 the son of James and Eva (White) Moore. He was the youngest of ten children who have all predeceased him. He was raised and educated in Whitesboro and was a 1943 graduate of Whitesboro High School. At St. Francis de Sales Church, Utica on August 10, 1946 Dick married Marion Groat. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving with the 2nd Division and participated in the Normandy Invasion landing on Omaha Beach. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Dick was employed at Griffiss Air Force Base as superintendant of communication retiring in 1980 after 33 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of The Rosary Church, New Hartford, American Legion Post #1113, Whitesboro, Whitestown Vets Club, VFW Post #7393, New York Mills, Veterans of The Battle of The Bulge, and life member of the DAV. Dick also enjoyed playing golf. Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Marion of 60 years, three children; Kevin and Celeste Moore, Herndon, VA, John and Kriss Moore, Sierra Vista, AZ and Carolyn Moore, of Utica, eight grandchildren; Todd, Ryan and Kelly Moore, David Moore, Jody Sweeten, Ben and Matt Viglietta, and Bethany Shivvers, he is also survived by 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Moore's funeral with military honors will be held on Monday May 14, 2007 at 9:15 from The Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 10:00 from Our Lady of The Rosary Church, New Hartford. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday from 4-7. American Legion Post #1113 will meet at the funeral home Sunday evening at 6:30.
