Mrs. Emily L. (Szczyt) Messman, 88 of Blue Bell, PA formerly of Whitesboro passed away on Friday February 22, 2008 in Pennsylvania. Emily was born in Utica on July 19, 1919 the daughter of Carl and Mary (Pretko) Szczyt. She was raised locally and was a graduate of Whitesboro High School class of 1937. On June 28, 1945 Emily married Frederick W. Messman at Westover Field, MA, a blessed union of 54 years until Frederick's death in 1999. For many years, Emily was employed as an Administrative Assistant with Oneida County BOCES until her retirement. She was a member of the National Education Association and a parishioner of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Whitesboro. Mrs. Messman is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Dr. Francis Stanek, Endicott, NY, Martha Messman-Munoz and her husband Antonio, Madrid, Spain and Eleanor Messman-Mandicott and her husband William, Frostburg, MD; one son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Lynn Messman, Georgetown, MA; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. Elaine and Charles Perry, Daniel and Diane Stanek, Paul Stanek, Luis Daniel de la Sierra-Messman, Emilio de la Sierra-Messman, Alejandro de la Sierra-Messman, Michael Messman and Molly Messman; two sisters, Stella Starowicz, Syracuse and Mary VanBrocklin, Utica; three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Mrs. Messman's funeral will be held on Friday February 29, 2008 at 8:45 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and 9:30 at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Yorkville.
