Elizabeth "Betty" Kindler Scagel, 85, of Clinton, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center. Betty was born on January 18, 1923 in Rome, NY, the daughter of the late Frederic and Mary (Barnes) Kindler. She was raised in Stanwix, NY and graduated from St. Aloysius Academy in 1939. Betty was employed by General Cable Corporation in Rome. In 1948, Betty was united in marriage to Donald A. Scagel of Clinton, NY. Mr. Scagel passed away in 1980. They made their home in Clinton until 1965 when they moved to Sacramento, CA. In 1968, they moved to Chelmsford, MA, where they lived until 1978, at which time they retired back to Clinton. Betty was a member of the Schooltown Questers #100, of the Clinton Art Association, and of the Kirkland Historical Society. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Clinton. Betty is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald A. Scagel, Jr. and his wife, Nancy Cook Scagel and their children, Tyler and Allison, of Sauquoit, NY; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sherry Scagel, of Chelmsford, MA, Eugenie Scagel and her husband, William Bauch and their children, Willie and Sarah, of Wilton, NH; one sister, Dorothy James, of Lake Delta, NY; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Edwin and Jacqueline Kindler, Rome, Paul Kindler, Rome, and Roger Kindler, Washington state. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betty is predeceased by a sister, Ellen, in 1929, and a brother, Frederic, in 1940. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton on Friday, May 2, 2008 from 4 ? 7 pm. Funeral services and interment in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Clinton will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kirkland Art Center or the Kirkland Town Library or a charity of your choice in Betty's memory.
