Edward A. Smith, 66, of Kellogg Ave., Utica, formerly of Glass Factory Road, Marcy, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Abraham House, Utica with his loving family at his side after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Edward was born in Utica on November 25, 1941. He was lovingly raised by Phillip and Agnes Brady, and educated in New Hartford. On June 23, 1979, Edward married Donna Vatalaro in St. Mark's Church, North Utica. He was employed by Harron Cable and later retired from Time Warner Cable. Edward was a member of the Communication Workers of America Local 1126, president of the Cable Cares Club (associated with functions for children), and the Thea Bowman House in Utica. Edward enjoyed participating in the St. Patrick's Day Parade and was a member of the committee that moved the parade from Varick Street to Genesee Street. He was also a member of the DARE Program and was the kind of person willing to help anyone. He was a member of St. Mark's Church, N. Utica. Edward is survived by Donna, Marcy, and their three sons and two daughters-in-law, David and Nadine Smith, Rexford, NY, Christopher and Christina Smith, Amsterdam, NY, Jonathan Smith and his friend, Joelle DeMarco, Cohoes, NY; three cherished grandchildren, Emma, Josephine, and Taylor Smith; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and William Bonsted, New Hartford; and a brother, John Brady. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Edward's funeral will be held on Friday, June 6, 2008 at 9:15 am from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and 10:00 am at St. Mark's Church, N. Utica where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Thursday evening, from 4 ? 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Abraham House or The House of Good Sheppard in Edward's memory.
