Obituary of Dorothy Powers

Mrs. Dorothy L. Powers, of Utica passed away on Friday December 21, 2007 at her residence. Dorothy was born in Utica on December 16, 1931 the daughter of the late Peter and Alma (Denslow) Ching. She was educated at St. Joseph School and was a graduate of UFA. On June 5, 1954, Dorothy married Francis (Shorty) Powers, Jr. After her children were grown she attended St. Elizabeth Hospital School for Practical Nursing, graduating in 1977. Dorothy was employed with St. Elizabeth Hospital and formerly with Dr. Vincent lo and Dr. James Haywood. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Chadwick's and was a member of American Legion Auxiliary post 1376, New Hartford and the Legion of Mary. Mrs. Powers is survived by her children, Sharon and Dan Stedman, Jim Powers and Joanne Powers; cherished grandchildren who were the joy of her life, Elizabeth (Sweet Beth), Brian, David and Thomas Stedman and Sarah Powers; her brothers, Donald Ching and his wife Patricia and Robert Ching; Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, especially, Marie Potter, Ronnie Taylor and Kateri Sparks and her in-laws, Janet Manley, Thomas Powers, and Joanne Mursh Powers. She was predeceased by her loving husband in September 1977, two sons, David R. in October 1983 who she missed every day of her life and Richard T. on December 15, 2007 and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Francis K. (Shorty) and Dorothy Powers, Sr. Mrs. Powers' funeral will be held on Monday December 24, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Chadwick's where her mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Utica will be held at the convenience of her family. Calling hours for family and friends are Sunday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. In keeping with Dorothy's wishes please omit flowers. Mrs. Powers' family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Lo, Dr. Yoss, Dr. Butala and Dr. Crawford for the care you provided to Dorothy. A special thank you to Dorothy's Dear friend and doctor, Dr. William Jorgensen for the compassionate care you provided to her. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
