Chester A. Olenik, 84, of Whitesboro passed away Tuesday March 4, 2008 in the St. Luke's Home. Chester was born in Utica on August 9, 1923 a son of the late Andrew and Mary (Lysczasz) Olenik. He was a graduate of MVCC and later attended Rochester Institute of Technology and Texas A&M College. Chester served in the 8th Army Air Corp. during World War II and was associated with the 467 Bombardment Group, B-24 Liberator. At Sacred Heart Church, Utica on July 11, 1953 Chester married Elizabeth (Bette) Arciero. For 35 years until his retirement in 1987 Chester was employed with the General Electric Co. (AESD) as an industrial engineer. He was a parishioner of St. Paul's Church, Whitesboro and a former member of St. Peter's Church, North Utica and St. Anne's Church, Whitesboro. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1376 New Hartford, a past commander of the Corrigan Legion Post, a past member of the GE Retirees Golf League and the Whitestown Senior Center. Chester enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking and wine making but of all his hobbies the one he enjoyed the most was oil painting. Chester was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family. Chester is survived by his wife, Bette, his daughter, Janice Bentley of Seneca Falls, NY, his two beloved grandchildren, Maria Bentley and Brody Bentley both of Seneca Falls, NY and many nieces and nephews. In 1994 Chester tragically lost his son Michael A. Olenik whom he loved dearly and whose memory he held close to his heart. He was also predeceased by five brothers and sisters. Mr. Olenik's funeral will be held on Thursday March 6, 2008 at 10:45 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 11:30 from St. Paul's Church, Whitesboro. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday morning from 9:45 ? 10:45. Those so wishing may make donations to the Alzheimer's Association or the Michael A. Olenik Scholarship Fund. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Barton East of the St. Luke's Home for all the loving care given to Chester.
