Robert N. Woody, 81, of Utica passed away on Friday April 28, 2006 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. Robert was born in Binghamton, NY on December 18, 1924 a son of Clayse and Geraldine (Duffy) Woody. Robert was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the European Theatre. On July 15, 1950 in Binghamton he married Irene Marecek a blessed union of 50 years until her passing away on July 25, 2000. After the War Robert was employed with the U.S. Postal Service, then later with Prudential Life Insurance Co., and then until his retirement in 1989 the Union Labor Life Insurance Co. He was a member and an usher of Sacred Heart Church, Utica, life member of the PBOE Elks #33, life member of the Knights of Columbus Council #189, life member of the Malsan Jones VFW Post # 7393 a trustee of the Post and President of WOVA, and a life member of the American Legion Post # 1376. Robert is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Frank Knee, Jamestown, NY, a son, Robert C. Woody, East Haven, CT, a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence M. and Cynthia Woody, Ilion, NY and a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Larry Luker, New Hartford, NY, 10 grandchildren, Kelly, Meaghan and Erin Knee, Samantha, Danielle, Kateri, Matthew and Stacy Woody, Robert and Christopher Luker, a sister Mary Purtell, Binghamton, NY, in-laws, Helen and Milan Panicek, CA and Roger Cargill, Endicott, NY, a special friend, Jane Lazur, Oriskany and many nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by a sister, Geraldine Cargill, a daughter-in-law, Deborah Woody and a brother-in-law, Eugene Purtell. Mr. Woody's funeral will be held on Tuesday May 2, 2006 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 10:00 from Sacred Heart Church, Utica. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 4-8.
