Virginia W. Gallagher, 81, of Clinton, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 21, 2006. Virginia was born in Buffalo, NY on May 2, 1925, the daughter of David and Elizabeth (McCormick) Waters. She was raised and educated in Baltimore, Maryland, going on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in English from Washington College, graduating in 1947. Later that year, Virginia married James F. Gallagher in Annapolis, Maryland. Following her husband's career in the military, the couple first moved to Brooklyn, NY where she worked as a nurse. In the early 1960's, James was sent to Griffiss Air Force Base at which time they made their home in Clinton where Virginia spent the rest of her life. During the 1970's, Virginia was the Director of Consumer Affairs under County Executive, Bill Bryant. She later returned to nursing and was employed at the Masonic Home in Utica, until her retirement. Virginia was one of the founding members of the Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps, a member and supporter of the Kirkland Town Library, and an active Democrat, who always kept up with current events.
