Lawrence J. Roth, 91, of Root St., New Hartford, passed away at his home Saturday, July 22, 2006. Larry was born in Utica, NY on July 6, 1915, the son of Lawrence H. and Mary McGuirl Roth. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of St. Francis deSales High School. On September 27, 1938 at St. Patrick's Church, Utica, Larry was married to Winifred Doolen, a union of 68 years. For a number of years until his retirement, Larry was a insurance agent with The Paul Revere Insurance Company of Utica. Prior to that, he was the owner/operator of Roth's Restaurant in East Utica. Larry was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford, where he proudly served as an usher, lector and eucharistic minister. He was a fourth degree Knights of the Columbus, Utica, a 41-year member of the Skenandoa Club of Clinton, and a member of the Elks Club of Utica. Larry is survived by his wife, Winnie; one daughter, Laraine Yager of New Hartford; nine grandchildren, Jeffery and Debra Yager, Mark and Leah Yager, Christopher and Shari Yager, Erika and Peter Wilhelm, Jennifer and Donald Heyd, John Yager and his fiancee Courtney Winters, Moira Long, Joseph and Cheryl Lannan and Matthew and Sarah Lannan. He also leaves 17 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Larry is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Ben Smith of Whitesboro. He leaves close friends, Barbara Lannan and Betty Dickherber; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws. Larry was predeceased by one daughter and son-in-law, Joan Lannan in 1994 and her husband Michael in 1989, and one grandson, Andrew Yager in 1987. Mr. Roth's funeral will be held Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at 9:15 a.m. from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. His burial will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitestown. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Tuesday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. Larry's family would like to make a special thank you to his nieces, Sally O'Callaghan and Phyllis Bonanza, for all their care and help during Larry's illness.
