Obituary of William Ransom

William E. Ransom, 87 of Deerfield, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 10, 2006 at his home with his loving fqmily by his side. William was born in Utica on March 14, 1919 the son of William G. and Florence (Hardy) Ransom. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On February 16, 1946 William married Theresa G. Scalzo in St. Anthony's Church, Utica, a loving and devoted union of 60 years. William was employed as a dairy farmer, cattle dealer, horse trader, antiques dealer and an auctioneer with Stace & Piresall of Camden and Burton's Livestock Exchange in Vernon. He had a fond interest in local history and was a great collector, especially of his cane collection. He was a parishioner of St. Mark's Church, N. Utica. Mr. Ransom is survived by his beloved wife Theresa, whom he devotedly worked side by side with for 60 years; two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlain and Robert Greene of Kentucky and Melloney and David Hathaway of Deerfield; three grandchildren and their spouses, James and Cici Greene of Kentucky, Carrie and Rich D'Ascoli of California and Tracy and Lou Denato of Deerfield; three great grandchildren, Kendall and Jeremy D'Ascoli and Araya Denato; three sisters-in-law, Rose Zegarelli, Sara Pezzulo and Cora Nasto all of Utica; twp special nieces, Susie Collver and Maureen Pezzulo and several additional nieces, nephew and life long friends. He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Brockett and brother Bobby Ransom as a child. Mr. Ransom's funeral will be held on Saturday May 13, 2006 at 9:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and 10:00 at St. Mark's Church where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in West Schuyler Cemetery, Schuyler, NY. Calling hours for family and friends are Firday 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413 in William's memory. Mr. Ransom's family expresses their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Joseph Booth and the staff of Hospice care for the loving care provided to William.
