Obituary of Margaret Page

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret ( Margie ) Kirkpatrick Page, formerly of Chatham, died August 5, at home in New Hartford, NY. In June she celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends. She is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Harry DeBacon Page. Mrs. Page was born in Chatham and lived there most of her life before moving to NY in 2002. Her mother's family, the Days were one of the first settlers in Chatham and have had a presence there since sometime before 1728. John Day was the first Day to buy land in the unsettled territory now known as Chatham. He built the bridge known then as Day's Crossing where Main Street crosses the Passaic River today. He also owned and operated Day's Tavern near that crossing. Margie's grandfather, Addison H. Day, the fourth generation in Chatham, was born there in 1850. He is famous as Chatham's longest commuter. His unchallenged record still holds at 65 years of riding the Erie Lackawanna from Chatham to NY. His first ride was on a wood burning locomotive. Many Day homes still stand in Chatham. Henry P. Day, Mrs. Page's great-grandfather's home is on 7 Martin Place and Addison's home remains at 368 Main Street. For more than 275 years descendents of John Day have lived in Chatham, Margie being the seventh generation. Mrs. Page attended art school in NYC and worked as a designer for the Montgomery Ward Catalog. Margie loved all children and her dogs. She was known in her neighborhood to have treats ready for both children and dogs. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy P. Parker, of Holland Patent, NY, a grandson, Joshua J. Parker of Boca Raton, FL, and a granddaughter, Rebecca P. Diamond of Hurley, NY; two nephews Paul S. and Charles A. Rheinhardt, both of NH and a niece, Peggy R. Littlejohn of Chatham who is the eighth generation of Day descendents still living in the town. A memorial service for Mrs. Page will be held on Tuesday August 8, 2006 at the Community Room of Sunset Court Apts., New Hartford at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Donations in Margie's memory would be appreciated to a charity of your choice.
