Michael P. Jones US Navy, Ret. Utica Mr. Michael P. Jones, 61 of Utica passed away on Monday October 16, 2006 at the Abraham House in Utica. Michael was born in Utica on February 8, 1945 the son of Richard and Elizabeth (Aubert) Jones. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. Michael served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War retiring as Chief Petty Officer after 21 years of service. After his honorable discharge from the Navy he continued his education at Mohawk Valley Community College. For 5 years he was employed with Mohawk Containers and most recently as an electrician with Rome Labs. Michael was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Utica and American Legion Post 1113 Whitesboro. He was chairman of the board of the Lupus Foundation where he worked closely with the Utica Fire Department coordinating the annual Lupus golf tournament. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards. Mr. Jones is survived by two sisters-in-law, Robin Jones, Utica and Bertha Jones, Seattle Washington; nieces and nephews, Richard Jones, Utica, Tricia Jones, Utica, Thomas Cieslak, Utica, Robert Cieslak and his wife Robin, Yorkville and Walter Cieslak and his wife Kristie, Whitesboro; great nieces and nephews, Robert John Cieslak, Megan Briggs and Madison Cieslak and aunts, cousins and many special friends. He was predeceased by two brothers, Martin Jones and Richard Jones and a sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Walter Cieslak. Mr. Jones' funeral will be held on Thursday October 19, 2006 at 9:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and 10:00 at Sacred Heart Church where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment with military honors will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica.
