Joseph A. Voce, 90, of North Utica, passed away Friday October 27, 2006, at the St. Luke's Home after a courageous battle with cancer. Joseph was born in Utica on February 27, 1916 a son of Anthony and Margaret (Dardano) Voce. Joseph received his education in local schools. On July 17, 1939 Joseph enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Shafter, Hawaii on December 7, 1941 at the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was honorably discharged on August 21, 1945. On June 19, 1948 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Utica Joseph was united in marriage with the former Rose Catrombone. Joe and Rose had a blessed union of 58 years. For many years until his retirement in 1981 Joseph was employed with Tri-State Laundries. He was a parishioner of St. Peter's Church, North Utica, a member of the American legion Post #229, and a member and past president of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Chapter #7. Joseph always enjoyed spending time working in his garden. Joe will be missed by his family especially his wife, Rose "Ricky", his cherished children, a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph S. and Paula Voce, TX, a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Frank Papale, Deerfield, 6 cherished grandchildren, Tammy, TaraRose, Bethany, Michelle, Misty and Summer and their children, three sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Betty) Nicotera, Utica, Anna Bianco, New Hartford, and Josephine (Jessie) Barbero, Utica, a brother-in-law, Arthur Cobb, FL and special cousins, Dolores and Nick Martellotto. Joseph was pre-deceased by three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Frances and Frank Paolozzi, Rose and Lou Agostino and Marie Cobb. Mr. Voce's funeral will be held on Thursday November 2, 2006 at 10:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica and at 11:00 from St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 4-8. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staffs of Clark-East and Clark-North of the St. Luke's Home for all the loving care given to Joseph.
