Doris M. Gallagher Utica Doris M. Gallagher, 81, of Utica, went to be home with the Lord on Thursday, April 13, 2006. Doris was born November 29, 1924, in Utica, the daughter of John and Margaret Reilly Butler. She was raised and educated in Utica, graduating from St. Francis de Sales High School. During WW II, Doris worked at both Griffiss AFB and Fort Dix to support her country. On April 17, 1944, Doris married Charles J.P. Gallagher in Utica. Monday, April 17, 2006 would have been their 62nd wedding anniversary. For many years, Doris was a member of the Alter Rosary Society and the Legion of Mary at St. Francis de Sales Church. She was presently a member of St. Mary's Church, South Street, Utica. Doris devoted her life wholeheartedly to her family. Her strong spirit and faith in God enabled her to take on life's challanges with unfaltering determination and grace. Full of creativity, she loved to read, travel, garden and enjoy the company of friends and family. Doris is survived by her beloved husband, Charles, Utica; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Charleen and Anthony George, Utica, Doris and Terrence Gibbons, Staten Island, Margaret and Thomas Garry, New Jersey, Therese Gallagher, New York/Utica; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terrance and Elba Gallagher, Georgia, Charles and Kellie Gallagher, Buffalo; fifteen beloved grandchildren, Lt. Cmdr. Patrick Gibbons, Catherine Clement, Mary Meador, Maureen Gibbons, Colleen Corrigan, Daniel Garry, Maryanne Garry, Sarah Garry, Elba Davis, Jessica Wolf, Amy Agliaga, Rebecca Gallagher, Brittany Gallagher, Evan Gallagher, and Ian Gallagher; eleven cherished great grandchildren, Chelea, Guinevere and Griffin Meador, Connor and Michael Clement, Ryan Gibbons, Ryan and Matthew Corrigan, Samuel and Jonathan Wolf, and Ethan Davis; one sister, Dolores Butler, Utica; a brother-in-law and his wife, Thomas and Mary Lou Gallagher, Ohio. Also surviving is a dear lifelong friend, who was a schoolmate and served as a bridesmaid in Doris' wedding, Shirley Kahler. She was predeceased by a sister-in-law and her husband, Mary Elizabeth and Raymond Zoeckler, and a special cousin, Melvia Vance. Mrs. Gallagher's funeral will be held Monday, April 17, 2006 and 9:45 am from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Church, South St., Utica, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rt. Rev. Richard V. O'Neill, who is a personal friend. Interment will take place in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Waterville. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on both Saturday and Sunday, 2 ? 4, and 7 ? 9 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central New York Parkinson's Association, New Hartford, NY, in Doris' memory. The Gallagher family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Donald Bloch of Massachusetts General Hospital, who was not only Doris' doctor, but a true friend to Doris and her family. Also a special thank you to Dr. LaGrant and Dr. Gesualdo for the care, kindness and compassion shown to Doris under their care; and finally to Helen Sarandrea, Doris' physical therapist and dear friend.
