George Dunbar, 96, of Sullivan Road, Frankfort, passed away unexpectedly April 25, 2006 at St. Luke's Healthcare Center, New Hartford. George was born in Fraserburgh, Scotland, September 26, 1909, the son of William and Mary Jane Dunbar. He was raised and educated in Scotland. Upon immigrating to Utica, George attended trade school for carpentry. In Utica, George was married to Mary Catherine Burns. Mrs. Dunbar passed away in 1947. For a number of years he worked at various garages as a mechanic, most recently at Hart and Crouse. His early years, he was employed at the New York Central Railroad. George loved working in his yard and fiddling with numerous projects. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Dunbar is survived by one daughter, Barbara Somerville of Petersburg, AK; a son and daughter-in-law, George and June Dunbar Jr. of Schuyler, NY; six grandchildren, Heidi Mercure, Richard Somerville, David Somerville, Celeste Swiecki, Jacqueline Grande, and George E. Dunbar; nine great-grandchildren, Maureen Mercure, Staci, Kevin and Cole Somerville, Nicholas Martin-Cerrano, Eric and Kyle Swiecki, Hannah Dunbar; and the "future" Mickey Grande. Mr. Dunbar was predeceased by ten brothers and sisters. His funeral service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, N. Utica, with the Rev. Robert Lindsey officiating. His burial will take place in West Schuyler Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Friday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. Donations in George's memory would be appreciated to the Medical Equipment Program at the John A. LaPolla VFW Post #8728, Schuyler, NY. Envelopes will be available.
