I am truly saddened by his passing. I will always remember his astounding ability to deliver the sharpest of wit with the softest of voices and how that softness often belied the depth of his insight. May the peace of the Lord be with him and with the three of you.

I had the great pleasure of knowing Doe and Dave through my dear friend, Amy. Dave (though I feel I should address him as "Mr. James"!) had a lovely dry wit of a vintage rarely found these days, and I have a vivid image of him sitting in his living room with Doe, adding the seasoning to a story she's telling. My thoughts are with all his family and friends.

I will remember Mr. James as a very kind man. I was fortunate enough to see him this past August, after 27 years, to say hello and give him a hug. To Steve, Meg and Amy, you have had to endure incredible strength during the past year between both parents. May peace be with you now. Lots of love

As the "German son" of David James, I remember visiting him in his house in August after the memorial service for Mom Doe James. He still was in a fairly good shape and when I left, I think both of us knew, that we would never meet again. So the flight back to Germany was sad not only because of the memorial service for Mom but I also felt like having had the service for Dad. He was a close friend, even though I used to write much more to Dorothy James. And I learned to understand the humor as time went on in his short remarks. The family lost the father and Clinton lost a very committed citizen who did a lot for the community. May peace bei with him and the famliy forever. Paul
