Mrs. Monica W. Crane, 90, a resident of St. Joseph Nursing Home, formerly of Marcy passed away Monday May 22, 2006 at the nursing home. Monica was born in LaFargeville, NY on January 19, 1916 the daughter of Samuel J. and Marion A. (Maloy) Bates. She was raised and educated in Port Leyden, NY were she attended career school and later graduated from Cobleskill College. In 1938 Monica married Homer C. White. Homer died in 1947. She later married Leonard J. Crane. Leonard died in 1996. For 35 years, Monica was employed with Marcy State Hospital retiring in 1960. She was a parishioner of St. Martins Church, Port Leyden and Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica. She was also a member of Marcy State Hospital Retirees and a former member and past 2nd vice president of the Stittville VFW ladies auxiliary. Mrs. Crane is survived by one sisters-in-law, Eleanor Bates, Clayton, NY; two brother-in-law, Floyd White and his wife Eleanor, Whitesboro and Ken Crane and his wife Barb, Clinton; special lifelong friend, Esther Ferris, Utica; dear friends, Dick and Carol Misiaszek, Marcy and their family, Sonya and Chad Monterose, NH, Chris and Nancy Jo Misiaszek, Marcy, Ricky Misiaszek, MA, Morgan Eve Misiaszek, Marcy and Lewis Rex Misiaszek, Marcy and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Leo Bates and Wilfred Bates. A memorial mass for Mrs. Monica Crane will be celebrated on Friday May 26, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Nursing Home Chapel. In keeping with Monica's wishes there are no calling hours. Interment in St. Martin's Cemetery, Port Leyden will be held privately. Those so wishing may consider donations to St. Joseph Nursing Home 2535 Genesee St. Utica, NY 13501 in Monica's memory. Arrangements are under the direction of Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., Utica.
