Mr. Joseph W. Craig, 82 a resident of the Lutheran Care Community, Clinton, formerly of Utica passed away on Monday May 15, 2006 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Joseph was born in Utica on January 22, 1924 the son of Lester and Lena (Noe) Craig. He was raised locally, attended Our Lady of Lourdes grade school and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. Joseph honorable served his country in the US Army during WW II. On October 2, 1948 Joseph married Shirley H. Hasler at Our lady of Lourdes Church a loving and devoted union of 44 years until Shirley's death in 1992. He was employed as an industrial photographer and free lance photographer with Curtiss-Wright Corporation, Lyndhurst, NJ retiring after 33 ½ years of service. He was later employed with Brodock Press until 1988. Joseph was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 5920, Hawthorne, NJ, where he served as Grand Knight from 1971-1975 and a life member of Knights of Columbus Council 189 Utica and its 4th degree council. He was also a member of American Legion Post 199, NJ, Sacred Heart Church Utica and was an active volunteer at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Mr. Craig is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl LaFayette, (a RN at St. Elizabeth Medical Center) and her husband Gary, New Hartford and JoAnn Zilske and her husband John, Arlington, VT; one sister, Agnes M. Craig, NY City; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Thomas and Betty Craig, Utica and Dorothy VanHorne, Frankfort; four grandchildren, Kari Craig, Karl Schultz, Jessica Zilske and Matthew Zilske and his wife Tammy; three step grandchildren, Eric LaFayette and his wife Nadine, Cathy Munch and her husband Russ and Gary LaFayette Jr., and his wife Sheri; 11 great grandchildren, Isabelle, Noah, Rachael, Juliah, Brittany, Amber, Megan, Andrew, Bradley, Alex and Kaleb and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Craig's funeral will be held on Thursday May 18, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Interment in Glenside Cemetery, NY Mills will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours for family and friends are Thursday 1-3 and 6-8 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to a charity of your choice in Joseph's memory. Knights of Columbus will meet at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 7:30.
