Carmen R. Grimaldi, 78, of Whitesboro, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at his home. Carmen was born in Utica on October 11, 1939 the son of Fred and Angeline (Pugliese) Grimaldi. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. After graduation, Carmen honorably served in the US Air Force. On December 5, 1982, Carmen was united in marriage to JoAnn (Zysk) Camerota. At one time, Carmen worked in his sister’s bakery, Mohawk Bakery Shop in Herkimer and for many years with Utica Corp. in Whitesboro. He was a passionate diehard Boston Red Sox Fan, and enjoyed fishing, traveling, NASCAR and tending to his vegetable garden. Carmen was of the Catholic faith. Mr. Grimaldi is survived by his beloved wife, JoAnn; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dan and Barb Camerota of Marcy, David and Kim Camerota of Whitesboro and Anthony Camerota of Whitesboro; seven cherished grandchildren, Danny and Cortney, Brandon, Domenick, Angelo, Karissa, Kayleigh and David, Jr.; three beloved great grandchildren, Khilee, Joseph and Kenzlee; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Marie Grimaldi of Utica, Robert and Joanne Grimaldi of Whitesboro and Dennis and Carolyn Grimaldi of Rome; his father-in-law, Louis (Weis) Kallasy of Utica; several nieces and nephews, especially, Freddie Grimaldi, III, David Grimaldi, Rich Grimaldi and Frank Grimaldi as well as brothers-in-law and sister-in-law. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Angeline, brother, Fred Grimaldi, Jr., sister, Theresa Viti and mother-in-law, Edna Kallasy. Mr. Grimaldi’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Whitesboro where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. His entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Yorkville. Calling hours for family and friends are Wednesday from 11:00-1:00 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St. Utica. Those wishing to make a donation in Carmen’s memory, please consider the Whitesboro Fire Department, 171 Oriskany Blvd., Whitesboro, NY 13492 or Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corp., 7489 E. South St., Clinton, NY 13323. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mr. Grimaldi’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Whitesboro Fire Department, Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corp and Edwards Ambulance Company for the timely response and assistance you provided to Carmen during his time of need. A special thank you to Dr. Fred Talerico, Dr. Alicia DeTraglia, Dr. Sushma Kaul and Dr. Emile Wassul for the wonder care you provided to Carmen.
