Rosella Siegenthaler

Obituary of Rosella A. Siegenthaler

Please share a memory of Rosella to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
After an extraordinary and productive 87 years, Rosella Siegenthaler entered eternal peace with God our Father. The daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Frank, Utica, NY, Rosella was born on September 2, 1930 in the era of the Great Depression. She spent her youth learning to give thanks for all of God’s gifts, to mindfully conserve resources, to take charge when necessary, and to have empathy for those in need. These were traits that served her well throughout a life that was rich with love, family, and friends. They also helped to generate a treasure trove of humorous stories about her inventive life-long way of finding a second use for almost everything. Ever “in charge”, Rosella passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 21st, 2017 in the comfort of her home with the love and support of her family/caregivers; in keeping with her wishes. Rosella attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School in Utica and went on to attend Whitesboro High School. She graduated 3rd in her high school class in 1948. While in school she engaged in numerous social and civic pursuits that helped to earn her a Citizenship Award from Syracuse University. Rosella graduated from the State University Institute of Applied Arts & Sciences, New Hartford, NY in 1951 with a degree in Retail and Business Management. She initially worked as an Assistant Store Manager for Vernon Office Supply Co. in Utica. Rosella later lived and worked in Washington D.C. and Albany, NY. On November 19, 1955, she married the love of her life, Frederick “Fred” G. Siegenthaler. Together they raised eight wonderful children and enjoyed 57 fulfilling years of marriage until his passing on May 19, 2013. With an abiding love of children, Rosella was well suited to motherhood and provided a faith-filled and structured home life in which love, laughter and tolerance were ever present. She was adamant about ensuring that her children understood the meaning of integrity and personal accountability; teaching them important life skills at a very early age. She was active in the local Girl Scout organization and served in multiple leadership roles in Cub Scout Pack 41. As a member of Our Lady of Lourdes parish she was also involved in several church and school organizations. Rosella had a keen interest in theatre and participated in several parish plays. She was also known for organizing and directing several neighborhood children’s productions to benefit St. Jude’s Hospital. She was blessed to have many dear friends and especially enjoyed spending time with her Beta Sigma Phi Sorority group of which she was a long-time member. Rosella loved to learn new things, always inquisitive about the world and people around her; a good counselor, listener and confidante. If you didn’t know her when you started talking to her, you felt like you did when you finished. Rosella always managed to keep up to date on both local and international news and events and was an avid reader. In later years she enjoyed traveling with her husband and visiting friends and relatives. Rosella particularly enjoyed learning to use her iPad and joining Facebook so that she could keep up with her kids and grandkids. Rosella remained sharp and decisive to her last day and will be remembered for her strength, creativity, love of children and for never passing up a good garage sale or Hershey bar. Rosella is survived by her children, Kathy and Doug Holzhauer of Whitesboro, Terri and John Waldron of Sherrill, Chris and John Mario of Collegeville, PA, Mary Alice (Boak) and Neil Bidwell of Whitesboro, Fred and Anita Siegenthaler of Forest, VA, Richard and Olga Siegenthaler of Tampa, FL, Sharon and Brian Smith of Marcy, and Bill and Jill Siegenthaler of Frankfort; a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Frank of Utica, and brother, Dr. William “Bill” Frank of Forest, VA; brother-in-law’s, David Siegenthaler of New York Mills, Robert Siegenthaler of Incline Village, NV., her grandchildren, Nathan and Jody Holzhauer, Mary Therese Holzhauer, Karen and Brent Potts, Laura and Jobin George, and Nicole “Jenny” Waldron, Kate and Steve Leounis, Nicole and Kenny Davis, Bennett and Vaughn Mario, Dan Boak, Gabriel and Autumn Siegenthaler, Bianca and Remo Siegenthaler, Kristen and Stephen Bourgeois, Brian and Amanda Smith, Walter and Julia Siegenthaler and great grandchildren, Andrew, Benjamin and Craig Holzhauer, Alora and Alden Potts, Hunter Bourgeois, Colton Sypolt, her nieces, Ann Lucado, Heidi Chew, Ann Sturbin, Julie Siegenthaler, her nephews, Charles and Greg Frank, many cousins, numerous friends and neighbors and good friend, Jean McBride.
