Marilyn J. Schaaf, 84, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Marilyn was born in Utica on March 30, 1934, a daughter of Raymond and Marcella (Liddy) Murphy. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School. Marilyn married Donald L. Schaaf at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica, on May 31, 1954, a blessed union of 62 years until his death on July 6, 2016. For many years she was employed with the New York Telephone Co. She was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. In her spare time, Marilyn enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting. Marilyn is survived by her nine children, Cathy Knapp, Schuyler, Colleen Schaaf, Whitesboro, Susan (Thomas) Knapp, Whitesboro, Donald (Roberta) Schaaf, Long Island, Patrick (Suzanne) Schaaf, Utica, Marilyn (Nicholas) Swertfager, NC, Shelia Collver, Whitesboro, William (Mary Ann) Schaaf, Yorkville and Bridget (Robert) Wenner, Deerfield. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, a sister, Louise Sheehan, SC and several in-laws, nieces and nephews. Marilyn was predeceased by two brothers, James Murphy and Pete Murphy and a son-in-law, Michael W. Knapp, Sr. Mrs. Schaaf’s funeral will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at 9:30 from Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will take place in the spring in West Schuyler Cemetery. Calling hours at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, are Friday from 4-7. Those so wishing may make donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Masonic Care Community in Marilyn’s memory. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kevin McCormick and the Saratoga and Westchester Units of the Masonic Care Community for the all loving care given to Marilyn.
