Mr. John “Jack” Leach, 72, of Utica, passed away February 1, 2019. John was born on December 22, 1946, the son of the late John Leach Sr, and Jean (Gillissie) Leach and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy, class of 1966. In 1969, Jack was united in marriage with Katherine Bender and the couple shared a blessed union of 50 years. Jack was employed with Univac, later with Pinkerton and most recently with Brinks Security. Jack had numerous hobbies, but fishing he loved most of all. He won many fishing awards throughout the years, and will be remembered most recently as “Adirondack Jack”. He took great interest in the “bigfoot” legend and also appeared in several documentaries on ESPN, which he was very proud of. Mr. Leach is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine; two daughters and sons-in-law, Michele and Timothy Bushley and Shawna and Daniel Bonner; cherished grandchildren, Jolene, Robert, Thomas, Kayleen, Abralene and Laura; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jeanne and James Donahue and Linda and Gene Avella; his mother-in-law, Ann Bender and brother-in-law, Joseph Bender as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, James in 1992 and father-in-law Thomas in 1991. Mr. Leach’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. His burial, in Calvary Cemetery will be held at the convenience of his family. Calling hours for family and friends are Tuesday from 1:00-3:00 prior to the service.
