Mrs. Lucille C. Owens, 86, of Clinton, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford, with her loving family by her side. Lucille was born in Utica, on January 21, 1932, the daughter of Edward W. and Mildred F. (Rice) Leach and received her education in Whitesboro Schools. On December 1, 1951, Lucille was united in marriage with Ronald T. Owens at Sacred Heart Church in Utica, a loving union of 39 years until Ronald’s death in 1991. For many years, Lucille was employed with Herb Philipson’s until her retirement. She then went to work for Westmoreland School, a job she truly loved. Lucille was a member of the New Hartford Senior Center and enjoyed attending aerobics there. She also enjoyed playing bingo with the “bingo bunch” and her greatest joy was spending time with her beloved great grandchildren who were the light of her life. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Clinton. Mrs. Owens is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol Ann and Richard White of New Hartford; son and daughter-in-law, David and Tammy Owens of Westmoreland; three cherished grandchildren, Melissa White of New Hartford, Darci Owens of Westmoreland and Ashli Owens of Rome; four adored great grandchildren, Anthony, Zander, Olivia and Colton; a sister-in-law, Judith Holt of Winter Haven, FL; two dear friends, Irene Hummel and Sue Sychtysz both of Clinton as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Robert Owens, brother, Edward Leach and two sisters, Dorothy Leach and Nancy C. Anthony. Mrs. Owens’ funeral will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Her burial will be held privately in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends are Thursday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Owens’ family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare for the wonderful care and compassion you provided to Lucille.
