Obituary of James P. Beck

James (Jim) Philip Beck, 63, of Malone, NY passed away after a brief illness on January 11, 2019 at Upstate Medical in Syracuse, NY. He was born in Hornell, NY on January 10, 1956, son of Maria (Colacicco) Beck and the late Jerome Beck. Jim attended Utica Grade Schools and was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and Utica College. He was employed by Capital Region BOCES as an IT Technician working within many of the North Country School Districts. In his youth, he was an Eagle Scout and Utica Observer Dispatch Paperboy of the Year, two achievements that he was very proud of. Jim enjoyed many things like fishing, hunting, cooking, wine making, technology and travel. He was a very loving and devoted father to his two beautiful children Sara and Joe and created many memories during their annual trips to Utica for the Boilermaker and “Beck Christmas Eve Dinner”. He also introduced them to Franco’s Pizza/North Utica and “Tomato Pie”. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time with his close family, friends and “card club”, sharing many of his embellished stories. Jim loved to ski with his brothers Phil, Jerry, Ray and close cousins Rob and Rick Leahy. As a tradition Jim would always take a “shortcut” to the ski slopes that often took longer than the direct route. Jim is survived by his daughter, Sara and son ,Joseph, whom he loved so much; Darlene Osborn, his guiding angel and very dear and devoted partner, of Malone, his mother, Maria Beck of Utica, sister, Beth Beck-Dowd, of Clinton; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Cathy, of Whitesboro, Richard and Jill, of Chapel Hill, NC, Philip and Denise, of Whitesboro, Jerry and Mary Jane ,of Warsaw, Indiana, Raymond and Phylis, of Utica; his aunts/uncles, Phyllis and Richard Leahy, of Deerfield whom hosted the family holidays including his favorite “Feast of the Seven Fishes” on Christmas Eve, Elise and USAF Lt.Col. Ret. Vincent Colacicco, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Phillip J. Colacicco, Angela (Trunfio) Colacicco and cousin Robert M. Leahy. Jim’s family would like to express their appreciation for the extraordinary care, support and compassion provided by Dr. Aqeel A Sandhu and the Unit 8F Cardiology Staff of Upstate University Hospital. In keeping with Jim’s wishes a private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heintz Funeral Service, Inc.
