Candace (Candy) L. Oczkowski, 74, of Deerfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at Albany Medical Center. Candy was born in Utica on September 6, 1944, daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Gorton) St. John and was educated locally. On October 3, 1986, Candy was united in marriage to Joseph Oczkowski. Candy was at one time employed at St. Luke’s Hospital and later retired from Slocum Dickson Medical Group, where all her patients loved her as a nurse. Candy was an active member of the community serving as a Deerfield Town Councilwoman for two terms and a member of the Deerfield Ladies Auxiliary, having served as president, secretary and treasurer. She was also a member of The Fraternal Order of the Eagles where she was active in many leagues. She loved camping, cooking, golfing, bowling, gardening, pitch, shuffleboard and spending time in Lake Placid. Candy was beloved by many good friends and will be sadly missed by ALL. Candy is survived by her loving husband, Joseph, four daughters, Alicia Cashman, of Yorkville, Michele Husnay and husband, Michael, of Oneida Lake, Julie Murawski and husband, Michael, of Oneida and Jennifer Fell, of NC; nine grandchildren, Serena, Kevin ( Jaclyn), Christopher, Morgan, Melissa, Patrick, Stephanie, Kiana (Mike) and Faith; one great granddaughter, Madelyn and baby Carson on the way; a brother, Jimmy St. John and wife, Sandy, of Holland Patent; her father-in-law, Walter Oczkowski, of Deerfield; in-laws, Greg and Sharon Oczkowski, of Whitesboro, Gail and Don Garrett, of Rochester, Kristine Oczkowski, of Deerfield, Kathy St. Leger, of Croton-on-Hudson and Jeff and Camille Oczkowski, of SC; several nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Sambucca. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Janette Oczkowski. Mrs. Oczkowski’s funeral will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 10:00 at St. Mark’s Church, N. Utica. There are no calling hours. Those so wishing may make donations to Stevens Swan Humane Society or Deerfield Ladies Auxiliary in Candy’s memory.
