Aletha Mabbett Rowlands, 98, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Masonic Care Community. Aletha was born in Utica on March 31, 1920 a daughter of Leslie and Edith (Spooner) Mabbett. On June 22, 1940 at Whitesboro Baptist Church she was united in marriage to Thomas Rowlands, a blessed union of over 68 years. Mr. Rowlands died on October 28, 2008. At one time she was employed with Foedish Woman Shop and Lofts Candy Store. Aletha was a member of the Whitesboro Baptist Church. Aletha is survived by her son, Robert (Bob) Rowlands, of Utica a grandson, Michael Kohler and wife, Amanda, a special great grandson, Joey, a brother, Donald Mabbett and wife, Pearl of Canajoharie, a sister, Joan Lewis and husband, George of Burnt Hills, NY and several nieces and nephews. Aletha was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara Kohler and siblings, Marjorie Monnier, Elizabeth (Betty) Lockwood, Winifred Featherbay and Leslie, William and Herbert Mabbett. A funeral service for Mrs. Rowlands will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 1:00 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday from 11:30 -1:00. Those so wishing may make donations to the Masonic Care Community in Aletha’s memory.
