Gladys H. Donovan, 95, of the St. Luke’s Home and formerly of North Utica passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2018. Gladys was born in Utica on December 3, 1922, a daughter of John and Rena (Leary) Hess. Gladys was a 1941 graduate of Utica Free Academy. At Blessed Sacrament Church on February 9, 1946, Gladys was united in marriage to Joseph F. Donovan, a blessed union of 42 years until his death in 1988. At one time she was employed at the Oneida County Motor Vehicle Dept. and later for 15 years at Steinbach and Hess Dept. Stores. She was of the Catholic faith. In her spare time, Gladys volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital and was a member of the Hospice Walking Group and North Utica Seniors. Gladys is survived by her two sons, Dan and Joann Donovan, North Utica and Pat and Chris Donovan, North Utica; five grandchildren, Melissa Donovan and Frank Ozog, Lindsay Donovan, Taryn and Anthony Coromato, Lauryn Donovan and Ryan and Ena Donovan and two great grandchildren, Bianca Artessa and Alexander Ozog. Gladys was predeceased by her daughter, Debra Donovan in 1979 and a sister, Daisie Walters in 1977. Calling hours for Mrs. Donovan will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 5-7 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, with a funeral service at 7:00. Burial will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Those so wishing may make donations to the Stevens Swan Humane Society or Hospice & Palliative Care in Gladys’ memory.
