Mr. John W. Rowlands, 66, of Floyd, passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at his home, with his loving family by his side. John was born in Utica, on December 28, 1951, the son of Joseph C. and Rosemary (Spohn) Rowlands. He was raised and educated in Utica and attended, John F. Kennedy High School. John was a US Marine Corps combat veteran, honorably serving two tours of duty during the Vietnam war. For many years, he was employed as a roofer and handyman in the Utica Area. John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed socializing with his many friends and was always known for his humor and outgoing personality. Mr. Rowlands is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Brooke and John Zakris of Westmoreland and Kellie and Chris Edwards of Whitesboro; seven grandchildren, Nicole (Ciccone) Getbehead and her husband Jeff of Georgia, Alexiz Webster of Westmoreland, Christopher Edwards of Whitesboro, Rowan Edwards of Whitesboro and Brandon, Lindsey and Luke; one great grandson, Jackson Getbehead; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Marianne and Stanley Borzendowski of Floyd, Mary Lynn and Larry Hanus of Floyd and Mark Giruzzi of Marcy; one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Deborah Rowlands of Steuben as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Rosemary and two sisters, Maribeth Bougourd (Rowlands) and Mary-Judith Giruzzi (Rowlands). Relatives and friends are invited to John’s memorial Mass of Christian burial on Saturday, (today) December 1, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Our lady of Lourdes Church, 2222 Genesee St., Utica. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., N. Utica.
