Mr. Garland Dale VanGorder, affectionately know by family and friends as Dale, age 74, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford with his loving family by his side. Dale was born in Schenectady, NY on July 4, 1944, the son of Everett and Florence (Pierce) VanGorder. He was raised and educated in St. Johnsville, NY, was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School and attended Utica College. Dale proudly served in the Army National Guard. On January 23, 1971, Dale was united in marriage with Judith E. Roberts at St. Mark’s Church in N. Utica. For many years, Dales was employed as a Medicaid Examiner with Oneida County Department of Social Services, retiring in 2015. He was a coach and past president of N. Utica Little League, enjoyed playing cards, especially pitch, and watching old western movies and Perry Mason movies. Dale was also a big Syracuse fan and LA Dodgers fan and never missed a Dodgers game. He will most be remembered for the love he had for his family, especially his 13 cherished grandchildren who were the joy of his life. Mr. VanGorder is survived by his beloved wife, Judith; his five children and 13 cherished grandchildren, Cherie and Chris Ponzi of Fort Plain, NY and their children, Charles, Nicholas and Samantha; Chad and Tammy VanGorder of Fairport, NY and their children, Kaitlyn, Emily and Madison; Aron and Jade VanGorder of Fort Plain, NY and their children, Austin and Landon Dale; Alissa and Thomas Hoyte of Oriskany Falls, NY and their children, Hayden and Elena; and Justin and Elizabeth VanGorder of Clinton, NY and their children, Melody, Garrus and Darien; one sister and brother-in-law, Gayle and Abilio Malheiro of FL; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and DeeDee VanGorder of Johnstown, NY as well as several nieces, nephews and in-laws. Calling hours for family and friends are Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the conclusion of visitation. Burial in Crown Hill Memorial Park in Kirkland will be held at the convenience of the family.
