Mrs. Shirley E. Cole, 95, of Utica, New York passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018, with her loving family by her side. Shirley was born in Utica, New York on December 28, 1922, to John T. and Viola Keating. On November 23, 1946, she married Edward J. Cole at Blessed Sacrament Church in Utica, New York. Shirley devoted her life to her family as she was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was the true joy of her life. In addition to her love for her family, she was a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic faith as a parishioner of St. Mark’s Church. Special memories shared with her family included cruises, trips and vacations, especially to New Jersey and their fourteen winters spent in Florida. Shirley’s best memories included spending holidays and special occasions with her loved ones. It was during these times that her smile could light up the entire room. Shirley is best remembered by this contagious smile and her welcoming and loving personality. Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Edward J. Cole; their three children, Edward (Ivette) Cole, Dr. Gregory Cole, and Laurie (David) Bushey; nine grandchildren, Edward Cole, Carrie Wells, James (Monica) Cole, Christopher (Nancy) Cole, Melissa (Michael) Perkins, Amanda Bushey (Craig Soja), Sarah (Adam) O’Hearn, Kristina (David) Lentricchia and Luke Bushey. She is also survived by sixteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, three brothers, a sister and her in-laws. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at the Masonic Home for their outstanding care, specifically those in the “Inlet” community. A special thanks to Shirley’s caregiver, Lisa, who showed both her and Edward unwavering love and attention during their time there. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Church, 440 Keyes Road, Utica, New York 13502. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. The burial will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Masonic Care Community. “We loved you every day, and now we will miss you every day”.
