Mrs. Barbara A. Jones, 79, of N. Utica, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford.
Barbara was born in Utica on April 13, 1939, the daughter of the late George and Mary (Hajdasz) Fritts. She was raised locally, attended St. Stanislaus elementary school and was a graduate of Utica Catholic Academy. In her early years, she worked at North Utica Dairy. Barbara started her career at the Telephone Company and worked many years for General Electric, eventually retiring from Lockheed Martin. Barbara was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Michael W. Jones, on May 17, 1958 at St. Stanislaus Church in Utica, a loving and devoted union of 50 plus years, until Michael’s death in 2009. Barbara dedicated her life to her family. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she spent most of her time keeping track of their daily activities. Barbara was an amazing woman who served as a role model for her children. She persevered through many health issues, graciously relying on her faith and never giving up. Barbara was a wonderful cook and happiest when she was feeding someone a home cooked meal. One of her favorite outings, were mornings at Wanda’s Beauty Shop with the “Wednesday crew”, Rita, Maria, Josephine and Wanda. Barbara was an avid NY Yankees fan, spending countless hours watching their games. She also enjoyed spending time at the casinos with her family, especially her adventures in Atlantic City, which hold many cherished memories.
Mrs. Jones will be greatly missed by her loving children; Theresa Huzarewicz of Marcy, Joseph and Sandra Jones of Marcy and Michelle and Scott McGauley of NY Mills; four cherished grandchildren, Tara and Paul McLean of Deerfield, Tricia Huzarewicz of Sherrill, Jennifer McGauley of NY Mills and Morgan McGauley of NY Mills; four adored great grandchildren, Dawson, Brooklyn, Britynn and Hunter; one dear brother, Albert Hajdasz and his wife Eileen of Remsen and a special cousin, Betty and Tommy Williams of Marcy as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Michael S. Jones.
Mrs. Jones’ funeral will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 10:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and 11:00 at Our Lady of The Rosary Church in New Hartford, where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Her Rite of Committal and entombment will follow in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Yorkville. Calling hours for family and friends are Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Those wishing to make a donation in Barbara’s memory, please consider the American Cancer Society or the Faxton-St. Luke’s Foundation-Dialysis Unit. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Mrs. Jones’ family extend their heartfelt gratitude to her doctors, especially, Dr. Blaker, Dr. Butala and Dr. Eldredge and the wonderful staff of the 6th floor at St. Luke’s Hospital for their Kindness and compassion.
