Obituary of Nicholas F. Calenda

Nicholas F. Calenda, 75, of Utica, passed away September 30, 2018, at home, after a courageous six year battle with cancer, with his loving family by his side. Nick was born in Utica on January 8, 1943, a son of the late Albert F. and Mary (Percacciante) Calenda. He was a 1960 graduate of Whitesboro High School. Nick proudly served in the Navy from 1961-1966, as a Navy Radioman, 3rd Class. On February 24, 1979, at St. Paul’s Church, Whitesboro, Nick was united in marriage to Jennifer Head, a loving marriage of 39 years. He was employed at Kelsey-Hayes for 27 years and later as a salesman for 20 years at All Season Textile Services in Clinton. Nick was a member of St. Paul’s Church, Whitesboro, the Whitestown American Legion #1113 and the Polish Community Club, Utica. Nick is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Jennifer; a daughter, Sheri Lynne Hinman and husband, Rick, Blossvale, NY; a son, Nicholas Calenda Jr. and wife, Camille, CA; four grandchildren, Kiersten, Morgan, Brandon and Dawson; a brother, Anthony Calenda and Peggy Nugent, Bridgeport, NY; mother-in-law, Jean Head, Whitesboro; in-laws, Robert Baran, Utica, Nancy and Anthony Corridori, Whitesboro, Jeffrey and Sue Head, Liverpool, Brian and Terri Head, Liverpool, Michael and Susie Head, Whitesboro, Paul and Ann Head, Clark Mills and Colleen and Richard Beyer, Oriskany and several nieces, nephews and numerous friends. He was predeceased by a sister, Kathryn Baran and his father-in-law, Harold Head. (Nicky is finute) Mr. Calenda’s memorial calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 2 – 4, with Military Honors to be rendered at 4 pm, at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St. Utica. A celebration of life will be held from 4 – 6 at the Polish Community Club, 810 Columbia St., Utica. In lieu of flowers those so wishing may make donations to Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413 or hospicecareinc.org, in Nick’s memory.
