Mrs. Joan K. Kelly, 80, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the Presbyterian Home for CNY in New Hartford, with her loving family by her side. Joan was born in Utica on July 6, 1938, the daughter of Robert and Mildred (Chabot) Kennerknecht. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Catholic Academy. On November 30, 1957, Joan was united in marriage with Winston G. Kelly at St. Joseph’s Church in Utica. At one time, Joan was a co-owner and an officer with Utica Floor Maintenance in Utica and for many years until her retirement, was employed with Sturges Manufacturing, Inc. in Utica. Joan enjoyed gardening and crafts, but her greatest joy was spending time with her loved ones at family gatherings. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of The Rosary Church in New Hartford. Mrs. Kelly is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Todd Kogut of Clinton, Norma Jean and Tom Rice of New Hartford and Collen and George Clemons of Utica; two sisters, Arlene McNally and Irene Siedler, as well as 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Steven Kelly, grandson, Nathaniel Kelly, three sisters, Marion Luley, Adeline Halpin and Doris Bergen and three brothers, Edward Kennerknecht, Robert Kennerknecht and Alvin Kennerknecht. Mrs. Kelly’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of The Rosary Church in New Hartford where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. The family will greet visitors at the conclusion of the funeral Mass. Her Rite of Committal and burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Yorkville Those wishing to make a donation in Joan’s memory, please consider the Alzheimer’s Association.
