Rose D. (Nicotera) Sangregoria, 104, of St. Joseph’s Nursing Home/Utica Rehabilitation and Nursing Center passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Rose was born in Utica on October 28, 1913, daughter of Peter and Helen (Caprano) Nicotera. Rose’s parents died in 1918 due to the influenza epidemic. Rose and her two sisters were raised by the Daughters of Charity at St. Joseph’s Infant Home, Utica. In 1931, Rose was united in marriage to Anthony Sangregoria, at St. Joseph’s Church, Utica, a blessed union of 45 years until his passing in 1976. Rose was employed in the nursery at St. Joseph’s Infant Home, where she derived great joy in taking care of the babies. Later she was employed at New York Telephone and Dr. Shaheen’s office. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church, Utica. Rose had a strong faith in God. Rose was the heart of her family. Her smile and laugh were infectious. She appreciated everything that she had and had a positive attitude throughout life. Grandma always told it like it was. Her cooking and baking were the best! Rose is survived by her daughter, Dolores Mundschenk, Utica, four grandchildren, Susan Buell and husband, Dale, Holland Patent, Sandra Jasinski, Utica, Robert Mundschenk and wife, Judith, Vestal, NY and Gary Mundschenk and wife, Stacey, Utica, eight great grandchildren, Sarah and Hannah Buell, Gregory Jasinski and wife, Shannon, Marie Jasinski and fiancé, Charles Jones, Rose and Alice Mundschenk, Alison and Olivia Mundschenk, two great-great grandchildren, Liana Jasinski and Christopher Caban Jr., a special niece, Katie Jones and special nephew, Don Slade. Rose was predeceased by her sisters, Camilla Nicotera and Angela Nicotera and son-in-law, Richard Mundschenk. Mrs. Sangregoria’s funeral will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018, at 11:00 from St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church, Utica. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. The family will receive guests at the conclusion of the mass. There are no calling hours. Those so wishing may make donations to the Mother Marianne’s West Side Kitchen in Rose’s memory. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of her Utica Rehabilitation and Nursing Center family and staff, especially those on the Second Floor. The care and compassion she received kept her comfortable during her years there and in her final days.
