Obituary of James F. Kogut

Mr. James F. Kogut, 58, of Stittville, NY, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. James was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing. James was born in New Hartford on September 19, 1959 the son of Francis J. and Marjorie (Hughes) Kogut. He was a 1977 graduate of Holland Patent High School and earned his associate’s degree from Mohawk Valley Community College. On August 15, 1987, James was united in marriage with Donna M. Demko at Zion Lutheran Church in New Hartford. At one time, Jim was employed with Stetson Harza in Utica and currently, as a senior draftsman with Oneida County Department of Finance. He was an active outdoorsman who especially enjoyed hiking, hunting, fishing and four wheeling. He was also an animal lover, especially dogs, but his greatest joy was the time he spent coaching his children in soccer.
Mr. Kogut is survived by his beloved wife, Donna; one daughter, Samantha L. Kogut of Utica; one son, Joseph F. Kogut of Rochester; his mother, Marjorie Kogut of Holland Patent; sister, Barbara J. Kogut of Lake Mary, FL; step-daughter, Megan and her husband John of Munnsville, NY; three step-grandchildren, Toby, Ella and David; his father-in-law, Joseph Demko of Utica as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. Also surviving are his canine companions, Dooley and Rascal, his feline companion, Truman and his grand dogs, Denali, Miller and Thor. He was predeceased by his father Francis Kogut and mother-in-law, Virginia Demko.
Calling hours for family and friends are Sunday, September 16th from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. His burial, in Holland Patent Cemetery, will be held at the convenience of his family. Those wishing to make a donation in James’ memory, please consider the American Cancer Society or Steven’s-Swan Humane Society.
Mr. Kogut’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff on the 6th floor at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare and to Dr. Alicia DeTraglia and her staff for the wonderful care and compassion you provided to James. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
