Obituary of Joseph E. Brodt

Mr. Joseph E. Brodt, 84, of Utica, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2018 at his home with his loving family by his side.
Joseph was born in Chadwicks, NY on July 8, 1934, the son of Raymond Brodt and Mary (O’Connor) Brodt, who was from County Cork, Ireland. He was raised and educated in Chadwicks and was a graduate of Chadwicks High School. Joseph honorable served in the US Army in the mid 1950’s. On May 24, 1958, in Middletown, CT, Joseph was united in marriage with Roseann Natalie, and the couple recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a large party attended by their family and friends. For 34 years, Joseph was employed with Special Metals retiring in 1999. He was an avid NY Giants Fan and an avid boxing fan, and especially enjoyed following the career of his brother Howard, who was a professional boxer. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching sports with his sons on Sunday afternoon. Joseph was very actively involved in his children’s lives, and for several years, coached his sons, Bob Berney Little League team, Utica Post 229. He was a parishioner of The Church of The Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa in NY Mills.
Mr. Brodt is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Roseann; two daughters, Tammy Brodt of Utica and Tina Masters of West Winfield; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Joseph and Brenda Brodt of Utica, Rocco Brodt of Utica and Howard and Melissa Brodt of New Hartford; one brother, James Brodt of Constableville, NY; one sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Florence and Robert Johnson and Ralph Petrucci all of CT, as well as 10 cherished grandchildren, 4 adored great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Arlene Brown, two brothers, Howard Brodt and Raymond Brodt and a sister-in-law, Anita Petrucci.
Mr. Brodt’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at The Church of The Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. His Rite of Committal and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. Calling hours for family and friends are Monday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica.
