Mrs. Kathleen Frances (Whalen) Nagy, 85, of Deerfield, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center of Utica with her loving family by her side. Kathleen was born in Whitehall, NY, on July 15, 1933, the daughter of Francis and Ruth (McGinnis) Whalen. After the death of her mother at a young age, Kathleen was raised by her father and her aunt Helen and was a graduate of Plattsburg Teachers College. On July 7, 1962, Kathleen was united in marriage with Joseph J. Nagy, Jr., a devoted union of 43 years until Joseph’s death in 2005. At one time, Kathleen was employed as a teacher in Canajoharie, NY. She enjoyed traveling, bowling and playing cards, especially bridge and pitch. Kathleen was a parishioner of St. Peter’s Church in N. Utica. Mrs. Nagy is survived by one daughter, Maryanne Nagy of Deerfield; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Lisa Nagy of Troy, NY and James and Bonita Nagy of Utica and Sylvan Beach; four cherished grandchildren, Helen Nagy, Jessica Nagy, Thomas Nagy and Melissa Buck-Petronio and her husband Mike; one adored great granddaughter, Teylor Rose Buck; one sister, Ann Marcelle of Fl; one niece Ruthann Marcelle and three nephews, Thomas Marcelle, Larry Marcelle and Edward Marcelle. She was predeceased by a brother, Fr. Bill Whalen. Mrs. Nagy’s funeral will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 9:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd. N. Utica and 10:00 at St. Peter’s Church, 422 Coventry Ave., N. Utica where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Her Rite of Committal and burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery in Greig, NY.
