Elizabeth J Gibbs (Betty) passed away Tuesday July 10, 2018 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Utica NY. Betty was born in Utica, the daughter of Henry T. and Genevieve M. (Van Hatten) Gibbs. She was raised and educated locally. Betty took joy in the simplest of things, she was always the first person at the table if there was a card game. She would arrive at the table with her coin purse and was always ready to play any card game going. She enjoyed camping, puzzles, board games, bowling and activities that were centered around her grandsons. Betty was a free spirt and would find the beauty in the smallest of things. She loved her fish tanks as well as her birds and found them great company many days. She had great talent when it came to knitting or crocheting items for her friends and family. Betty was a very kind soul and was very generous to the ones she loved, often giving to others while she went without for herself. She loved to visit with people and was always good for a joke or two. She made many friends during her lifetime and they too were her family. Betty is the beloved mother of Mrs. William (Elizabeth) Gilbert and the grandmother of three cherished grandsons, Joseph, George, and Matthew Jr. whom brought complete joy to Betty. She leaves her siblings, Ken, Ceil and Sue and was predeceased by her brother Jim as well as her parents Henry and Genevieve Gibbs. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Ms. Gibbs funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at 4 pm. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Relative and friends may call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, North Utica from 2-4 prior to the service.
