Obituary of Gladys R. Cameron

Mrs. Gladys R. Cameron, 96, a resident of the Masonic Care Community in Utica, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the nursing home.
Gladys was born on September 3, 1921 in Hinckley, NY, the daughter of the late Benedict and Mary (Smalley) Roberts. She was a graduate of Holland Patent Central School and Albany Business College. Gladys was employed as a secretary in the office of Military Personnel, (formally known as Griffiss Air Force Base) in Rome, NY, shortly after the base opened in 1942. In 1943, she enlisted in the United States Navy WAVES and proudly served during WW II. After completing basic training, Gladys was assigned to the Ship’s Service Representative Office in NY City. On October 13, 1945, Gladys was united in marriage with Arthur B. Cameron at St. Ann’s Church in Hinckley, NY. Arthur passed away on June 20, 1989. Gladys was a parishioner of St. Mark’s Church in N. Utica, and a member of American Legion Post 0845 in Frankfort, NY. She was also a member of the West Side Senior Center, where she enjoyed many happy hours in their activities, especially the crafts class.
Mrs. Cameron is survived by her daughters, Barbara A. Roberts of Frankfort Center, NY and Kathleen Griffith of Sauquoit, NY; two very dear grandsons, Richard Roberts of Utah and Christopher Roberts and his wife Maryann of Maryland and a special niece, Karen Bondoni of Cortland, NY. She was predeceased by a sister, Genevieve Clemons, a brother, Frederick Roberts and a son-in-law, Robert Griffith.
In keeping with Gladys’ wishes, there will be no calling hours and a private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Her interment will be held in St. Ann’s Cemetery in Hinckley, NY. At Gladys’ request, any donations in her name may be made to St. Mark’s Church, 440 Keyes Rd., Utica, NY 13502 or a favorite charity of your choosing.
Mrs. Cameron’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of the Masonic Care Community for the wonderful care and compassion you provided to Gladys. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heintz Funeral Service, Inc. N. Utica.
